Quality handcrafted furniture since 1992
Ironwood Studio is the creative partnership of Dave and Viv Street.
We have been making furniture since 1989. Ironwood Studio was formed in 1992 when we saw the demand for our unique handmade furniture. We have been represented in the major woodworking galleries in Australia and still have a significant presence at Bungendore Wood Works Gallery.
These days we specialise in chairs and we also make a range of distinctive free standing domestic furniture such as: hall tables, writing tables, coffee tables, dining tables, side tables as well as beds, bedside tables and chests of drawers.
Design emphasis is on clean simple lines, guided by functionality and strongly influenced by the “Arts & Crafts” movement. Our furniture is designed to last not only physically, but in style as well. We have seen it well paired with antiques as well as the most contemporary styles. Our chairs are designed with attention to ergonomics as well as style, and are all constructed with traditional mortise and tenon joints. Drawers are dovetailed and have solid camphor laurel drawer bottoms. You can rest assured that any piece acquired from Ironwood Studio is of heirloom quality — built to last.

FAQ
What timbers do you use?
We use mainly West Australian Jarrah and some Victorian Ash. You will see that some of our pieces are made of Tasmanian Blackwood — this is no longer as readily available to us but you can enquire as it might be available for smaller pieces.
How do I order from Ironwood Studio?
Contact us via the contact form and we can discuss your requirements and give you prices (due to contractual agreements we don’t list prices here). We will give you a firm quote and if you wish to go ahead we will ask for a deposit and give you a lead time. Payment is usually by direct credit.
What finish do you use?
We use a German made oil-based finish called Volvox. Totally non- toxic and gives a beautiful satin finish.
Do you sell through any other outlets?
Yes we sell through Bungendore Wood Works Gallery in Bungendore, just outside of Canberra. If you live in that part of the world we advise you to buy through the Gallery — the freight cost will be cheaper.
How should I maintain the finish?
Orange oil is the best for cleansing and revitalising the finish. It is a light oil, non-residual and leaves a clean citrus aroma. For more lasting protection and a nice satin sheen use a carnauba based furniture wax. Do not use anything with silicon in it as this causes problems with refinishing.
Do you do custom orders or one-offs?
We will do custom orders if they are a variation of one of our designs. We don’t make to someone else’s design or do one-offs.
